Helen is a second career sculptor. She began her career as a physical therapist - a career that she pursued for years. Thirty-one of those years was spent working in Abingdon, Virginia.
After she retired, French turned to the College for Older Adults (COA) at the Higher Education Center in Abingdon to engage in furthering her education. She was instructed by Lynn Price in portrait sculpture as a part of the COA curriculum. Her physical therapy background in anatomy, observation, and palpation were useful in the creation of her three dimensional art.
Helen French has sculpted under the mentorship of Lynn Price since 2017. Her inspiration comes from life on the farm, wild life, Norman Rockwell, Frederick Remington and her early years in South America.
